Pushing Buttons

As a kid growing up and even as an adult, there’s a part of me that loves pushing buttons. This is a quality that has been passed on to my youngest son Zach. As soon as Katie or I get a new car he immediately gets in and starts pushing buttons. He tries everything on the screens, doors, seats, all of it. He wants to see what happens and what everything does.

For me, it was always more about getting a reaction. So, if someone told me I couldn’t or shouldn’t, I often pushed the button (emotional or relational) just to see what kind of response I might get. It was often fun, entertaining, and even dramatic at times. I had bosses who seemed to lose it, and people that overreacted simply because I was willing to push their buttons.

This week was another one of those moments, but this time it was a positive thing. Katie and I pushed the button on Amazon to send my new book to print. The reaction of sitting at the desk preparing to push the live button, was surreal and a little overwhelming. Countless hours, conversations, meetings, and amounts of effort have gone into this accomplishment. I never thought that I would write a book, but my hope is that our story and lessons learned from the last 15 years will serve as a source of encouragement for countless others.

This wild and crazy moment would never have come to fruition without the encouragement of family like Katie, Dr. Paul, our kids, along with friends like John Barker and Bob Goff, and the hard work of Laura Short, Tricia Bowles and Rochel Furnnis. These family members and friends constantly encouraged and supported the dream.  They helped me think things through and pointed me in the way I needed to go.

While the emotions run deep and the excitement is real. It has been a team project. Thanks to everyone who made the book happen. I love all of you and appreciate your friendship.
